About J-PARC

Yes, it is possible to take a tour of J-PARC even if you are not participating in any experiments. Please follow the procedure outlined hereto arrange your visit.

About Proposal Application

You can apply to use the experimental equipment by submitting a "Proposal" through the designated website during the proposal call period. If you need support with planning your experiment or navigating the application process, please feel free to contact the CROSS User Support Desk — we will be happy to assist you. For more information on the overall application process, please refer to this page.
A call for proposals is the period during which applications are accepted for the use of experimental equipment. Since Proposals are categorized based on the nature and duration of the experiment. For more details, please refer to the "Call for Experimental Proposals" page.
It depends on the type of experiment you plan to conduct. General proposals are accepted once or twice a year during specific call periods, each lasting about three weeks. On the other hand, urgent access proposals and New User Promotion (NUP) proposals may be submitted at any time. For more details, please see "this page."

About User Facilities

Eligible users include beamline users at J-PARC, staff members of CROSS, personnel from J-PARC and MLF, as well as other individuals in similar roles.
To abtain permission, you must submit the User Experiment Preparation Lab Application Form and complete of a safety training session.
For more information about the application process, please refer to this page. The safety training takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes.
In principle, your contact person is your beamline scientist. However, in some cases, an appropriate officer from the CROSS Neutron Science and Technology Center may serve as your contact.
As a general rule, users are expected to bring their own supplies. However, basic consumables such as disposable wipes and gloves, as well as a limited selection of common reagents, solvents, and gases, are available.
Users may be held responsible for the repair or replacement of high-value laboratory equipment if the damage is caused by negligence or intentional misconduct. As a general rule, if the user is found to be responsible, they will be required to either restore the item to its original condition or provide monetary compensation. CROSS Neutron Science and Technology Center will cover the cost of repairing or replacing low-cost items such as beakers and pipettes.
In general, users are expected to take responsibility for removing and properly disposing of any waste materials they generate while using the labs. However, the CROSS Neutron Science and Technology Center provides designated waste bins for burnable waste, metal glass, and sharps, which users are welcome to use as appropriate.
Facility users have priority when using laboratory apparatus and equipment. If two or more groups wish to use the same piece of equipment at the same time, users are expected to coordinate directly and to a mutually agreeable arrangement that allows fair access for all parties.
As a general rule, samples that have been irradiated by the neutron beam are not permitted to be handled in the CROSS User Experiment Preparation Labs.
