Steps for Proposal Application

Applications for the use of experimental instruments must be submitted as research proposals by following the steps below.

Step

User Consultation

Review your experimental plan and check the specifications of the instruments to determine whether to proceed with the application.

Step

Proposal Submission

Log in to the *J-PARC Portal and submit your application via the “Proposal Submission System” page.
Initial user registration is required

*J-PARC Portal: This website allows users to complete various procedures, including applications for experimental instruments and accommodation reservations.

Step

Proposal Review

After the review process is complete, you will be notified of the results. If your proposal is accepted, you will be able to use the experimental instruments.

Procedures After Proposal Acceptance

After your proposal is approved through the review process, please follow the steps below.

Pre-Arrival Procedures

Please complete the following procedures at least two weeks before your visit.
・Coordinate your schedule with the Instrument Responsible Staff
・Submit necessary applications for bringing in samples and equipment
・Complete entry procedures for J-PARC(Online safety training video and comprehension test must be completed at least three business days before entry)

Procedures Upon Arrival

・Check in at the J-PARC Users Office counter,
If you plan to arrive outside of office hours, please contact the Users Office in advance.

Closed on national holidays, during the summer break (mid-August), and over the New Year holidays.

Experiment

Your experiments will be conducted at the designated experimental facility.

Departure Procedures

Before leaving, please return all borrowed items to the J-PARC Users Office.

Submission of Beam Time Usage Report

Please submit your report via the J-PARC Portal User Support System.
Submission is required for both Open Access and Proprietary Proposals.
This document serves as the official record of beam time usage, so please submit it promptly after your experiment.
If your beam time is divided into multiple sessions, please submit a report after each experimental session.

Submission of Experiment Report

(For Open Access Proposals only)
Please submit your report via the J-PARC Portal's Research Results Management System.
Timely submission is required.

Step

Publication of Results

(For Open Access Proposals only)
・Results obtained using the MLF must be published in academic journals, theses, conference presentations, or equivalent forms.
・Register your publications in the J-PARC Portal Research Results system
Please clearly state in your publication that the experiment was conducted using an MLF instrument.

Step

Payment of Beam Usage Fees

(Only if applicable)
For Open Access Proposals (excluding Priority Proposals), the beam usage fee will be waived if the experiment report is submitted within 60 days after the end of the term in which the proposal was completed.

Procedures for Using User Facilities

In addition to experimental instruments, users have access to various support facilities, including experiment preparation rooms and data analysis rooms. For detailed information on usage procedures, please see the User Facilities page.
